After two years (60 hours)3.283.60over 4.0 (48 hours of As)

Unweighted 4.0 scale, credits weighted. "Over 4.0": more than one term, with the credits of straight As that reach it. "Not reachable": a 4.0 cumulative, which needs an A in every class from the start.

How this calculator works

Worked example

You have a 3.1 GPA over 30 credit hours and you are taking 15 hours next term. What does a term of straight As do, and what term GPA reaches a 3.2?

  1. Quality points so far: 3.1 x 30 = 93.
  2. A term of As adds 4.0 x 15 = 60 points: (93 + 60) / 45 = 3.40.
  3. For a 3.2: (3.2 x 45 minus 93) / 15 = 3.40 needed next term.

Straight As lift a 3.1 to 3.40; a 3.40 term GPA reaches a 3.2.

Questions and answers

Is a 3.1 GPA good?

A 3.1 is a B average, about the US average and over the 3.0 line many programs ask for. It sits right at the 3.11 national average for the class of 2019. The next line worth aiming for is 3.5, a typical cum laude and dean's list line.

Is a 3.1 GPA good in college?

It is solid. In college a 3.1 clears the 3.0 most scholarships, internships and graduate programs ask for; dean's lists and cum laude usually start at 3.5, 0.40 points up.

What letter grade is a 3.1 GPA?

3.1 GPA letter grade: about a B. The nearest letter on the common 4.0 scale is B (3.0 points), 0.1 below a 3.1, so it reads as a B average with a few higher grades mixed in. On the 10 point scale with pluses and minuses a B covers 83 to 86 percent.

What is a 3.1 GPA in percentage?

About 85% on the 10 point scale with pluses and minuses, where a B runs from 83 to 86. There is no exact conversion back, because a GPA only keeps the letter: an 83% and an 86% are both a B and both count 3.0. The converter on the GPA scale page uses your own school's scale.

How do I raise a 3.1 GPA to a 3.2?

It depends on how many credits the 3.1 already covers. After one semester (15 hours): a 3.30 term GPA over 15 hours; After one year (30 hours): a 3.40 term GPA over 15 hours; After two years (60 hours): a 3.60 term GPA over 15 hours. The planner above starts at 30 credits; change them to match your transcript.

Is a 3.1 GPA good for college admissions and scholarships?

It meets the 3.0 line many scholarships, internships and graduate programs use, and it is right at the 3.11 national average for the class of 2019. Highly selective colleges often report higher GPA ranges for admitted students (see each college's Common Data Set or class profile), so a 3.1 needs strong courses, essays and test scores there.
