Questions and answers

Is 16 a good ACT score?

A 16 ACT composite is at the 41st percentile of ACT takers and matches an 890 SAT (880 to 910): below the middle ACT taker at 18 and 3.2 points under the 19.2 national average, so it is not a strong score yet, but 2 points reaches the middle. Whether it is good for you depends on the colleges on your list.

What percentile is a 16 on the ACT?

The 41st percentile on ACT's national ranks for 2024 to 2026 graduates: 41 in 100 test takers scored 16 or lower. A 15 is the 34th. A 17 is the 47th.

16 ACT to SAT: what does it equal?

880 to 910, with 890 as the single value, on the official 2018 ACT and College Board concordance. It says the two scores carry the same weight; it does not predict an SAT score.

How do I raise a 16 to a 17?

Add 3 section points across English, Math and Reading, so they total 50. On ACT's Practice Test 2 that is about 5 more right answers (50 of 108 instead of 45). Work on your weakest section first.

Should I retake the ACT with a 16?

Usually yes if your colleges report higher scores in their Common Data Set. 19.2 is the national average and 23 starts the top quarter, 7 points up. Find your weakest section with a practice test before the next date.
