How this calculator works
This AP Calc BC score calculator follows the College Board's exam description for the 2027 exam: 35% multiple choice Part A (no calculator) (29 points), 15% multiple choice Part B (calculator) (13 points), 16.7% free response Part A (calculator) (18 points), 33.3% free response Part B (no calculator) (36 points). Each raw point is multiplied by its section weight and the sections are added into a composite out of 100. Free response (FRQ) Part A (calculator) has 2 questions worth 9, 9 points; Free response Part B (no calculator) has 4 questions worth 9, 9, 9, 9 points, so enter the rubric points you expect for each one.
The composite is then matched to a 1 to 5. The College Board does not publish the cutoffs for current exams, so this calculator uses estimated boundaries: on our table a 5 starts at 60, a 4 at 50, a 3 at 38.5 and a 2 at 32.5 composite points. They are estimates, not official scores, and the real boundaries move a little from year to year. That is why the result shows how far you are from the next cutoff and which section gives you the most for one more point.
The 2027 AP Calculus BC exam is on Monday, May 10 in the morning session, which starts at 8 a.m. local time at most US schools. See the AP exam schedule 2027 for every date.
Worked example
A student scores about 65% of the points in every part of the AP Calculus BC exam: Multiple choice Part A (no calculator) 19 of 29, Multiple choice Part B (calculator) 8 of 13, Question 1 6 of 9, Question 2 6 of 9, Question 3 6 of 9, Question 4 6 of 9, Question 5 6 of 9, Question 6 6 of 9.
- Multiple choice Part A (no calculator): 19 of 29 raw points x 1.2069 = 22.9 composite points.
- Multiple choice Part B (calculator): 8 of 13 raw points x 1.1538 = 9.2 composite points.
- Free response Part A (calculator): 12 of 18 raw points x 0.9278 = 11.1 composite points.
- Free response Part B (no calculator): 24 of 36 raw points x 0.925 = 22.2 composite points.
- Add the sections: 65.5 of 100 composite points.
- On our estimated 2027 cutoffs that is a 5, the top score.
Estimated AP Calculus BC score: 5. This is an estimate: the College Board sets the real cutoffs after each exam.
AP Calc BC score distribution 2026
How your estimate compares: in May 2026, 82% of AP Calculus BC students earned a 3 or higher and 46% earned a 5. The bars show the share of all test takers at each score, from the College Board's official score distributions. They are the best public guide to how hard each score is to reach, and the reason the cutoffs above are estimates: the College Board sets them after every exam so that the scores mean the same from year to year.

Questions and answers
What is the AB subscore on the AP Calculus BC exam?
The BC exam reports a second score, the AB subscore, built from the questions that cover AB-level topics (about 60% of the exam). Colleges that give credit for AB can use it even if your BC score is lower. This calculator estimates the BC score from your section points; the AB subscore follows the same 1 to 5 scale on the AB-level questions. This page is the BC Calculus AP score calculator; Calculus AB has its own page.
Is a 5 on AP Calc BC easier than on AB?
Historically a larger share of BC students earn a 5, around 40% in many years, because BC students have usually taken more math. The cutoff itself is not easier: on our table a 5 starts at about 60 of 100 composite points, a little lower than AB, and the questions cover more topics.
What percentage do I need for a 5 on AP Calc BC?
On our table a 5 starts at 60 of 100 composite points. With the official 50/50 weighting that is, for example, 30 of 42 multiple choice questions right plus about 30 of 54 free response points. Enter your own numbers and the goal box shows the exact gap.
How are the AP Calc BC free response questions scored?
Six questions at 9 points each: two in Part A with a graphing calculator and four in Part B without one. Rubric points reward setup, method, answer and justification, and the series question is usually the one that separates 4s from 5s.
What percent do I need to get a 3 on AP Calculus BC?
A 3 starts at about 38.5 of 100 composite points on our table, which is roughly 38.5% of the available points. Because the sections are weighted, it depends on where you lose the points: with a strong free response section you can miss a good share of the 42 multiple choice questions. Enter your expected points and the goal box shows exactly what a 3 needs.
Is this AP Calc BC score calculator accurate?
The section weights and point values come from the College Board's course and exam description and scoring guidelines, so the composite follows the official weighting for the points you enter. The 1 to 5 is an estimate: the College Board never publishes cutoffs, so our boundaries average published third party estimates, named under the result with the date we checked them. Your real score can differ by one step when you are close to a cutoff.
Can I use this AP Calc BC calculator for a 2026 exam or practice test?
Yes, as long as your practice test has the same sections as the May 2027 exam described above. Enter your points from a released 2026 free response set or a full practice test and the composite is calculated the same way. The 1 to 5 uses our estimated 2027 cutoffs, and the 2026 score distribution on this page shows how real students did last May.
Does a 3 on AP Calculus BC count for college credit?
Many colleges give credit or placement for a 3, and selective colleges often ask for a 4 or 5 in this subject. The policy is set by each college, not by the College Board, so check the AP credit page of the colleges on your list before you decide which scores to send.
