Questions and answers

Is a D+ GPA good?

A D+ average is 1.3 grade points, below the 2.0 line colleges use for good standing, with room to recover. It sits 1.81 points below the 3.11 national average for the class of 2019. The next line worth aiming for is 2.0, a common good academic standing line.

Does a D+ GPA mean academic probation in college?

At many colleges a cumulative GPA under 2.0, a common good academic standing line, starts academic warning or probation. That is a plan to recover, not a verdict: you keep taking classes while the GPA climbs. With 30 credits behind a D+, 2 terms of 15 credits at a B average (3.0) or 1 term of straight As bring it back to 2.0. Your college catalog names its own line and any grade replacement rule.

What GPA is a D+ average?

A D+ in every class gives a 1.3 GPA on the common 4.0 scale. Mixed with other letters it moves toward them: half D+s and half C-s average 1.50. Schools that do not use pluses and minuses count a D as 1.0.

What is a D+ GPA in percentage?

About 68% on the 10 point scale with pluses and minuses, where a D+ runs from 67 to 69. There is no exact conversion back, because a GPA only keeps the letter: a 67% and a 69% are both a D+ and both count 1.3. The converter on the GPA scale page uses your own school's scale.

How do I raise a D+ GPA to a 2.0?

It depends on how many credits the D+ already covers. After one semester (15 hours): a 2.70 term GPA over 15 hours; After one year (30 hours): a 3.40 term GPA over 15 hours; After two years (60 hours): more than one term: 21 hours of straight As. The planner above starts at 30 credits; change them to match your transcript.

Is a D+ GPA good for college admissions and scholarships?

Not yet. A D+ is 0.70 points under the 2.0 many colleges use for good standing and 1.70 points under the 3.0 most merit scholarships start at, so the first goal is 2.0. From 30 credits one term of As over 15 credits lifts it to 2.20; grade replacement, summer classes and a lighter load of classes you can pass well move it faster still.
