How this calculator works
This AP CSP score calculator follows the College Board's exam description for the 2027 exam: 70% end of course multiple choice (70 points), 30% create performance task (6 points). Each raw point is multiplied by its section weight and the sections are added into a composite out of 100. Create performance task has 1 question worth 6 points, so enter the rubric points you expect for each one.
The composite is then matched to a 1 to 5. The College Board does not publish the cutoffs for current exams, so this calculator uses estimated boundaries: on our table a 5 starts at 90, a 4 at 81, a 3 at 62 and a 2 at 45 composite points. They are estimates, not official scores, and the real boundaries move a little from year to year. That is why the result shows how far you are from the next cutoff and which section gives you the most for one more point.
The 2027 AP Computer Science Principles exam is on Friday, May 14 in the morning session, which starts at 8 a.m. local time at most US schools. See the AP exam schedule 2027 for every date.
Performance tasks are due Friday, April 30, 2027, by 11:59 p.m. ET, submitted as final in the AP Digital Portfolio (College Board AP Central).
Worked example
A student scores about 65% of the points in every part of the AP Computer Science Principles exam: End of course multiple choice 46 of 70, Create task score (rubric rows, with the written responses) 4 of 6.
- End of course multiple choice: 46 of 70 raw points x 1 = 46 composite points.
- Create performance task: 4 of 6 raw points x 5 = 20 composite points.
- Add the sections: 66 of 100 composite points.
- On our estimated 2027 cutoffs that is a 3, 15 points below a 4.
Estimated AP Computer Science Principles score: 3. This is an estimate: the College Board sets the real cutoffs after each exam.
AP CSP score distribution 2026
How your estimate compares: in May 2026, 63% of AP Computer Science Principles students earned a 3 or higher and 10% earned a 5. The bars show the share of all test takers at each score, from the College Board's official score distributions. They are the best public guide to how hard each score is to reach, and the reason the cutoffs above are estimates: the College Board sets them after every exam so that the scores mean the same from year to year.

Questions and answers
How is AP Computer Science Principles scored?
The end of course exam has 70 multiple choice questions worth 70% of the score. The Create performance task, which you submit before the exam and defend in two written responses on exam day, counts 30% and is scored on a 6 point rubric. On our table each question is 1 composite point and each rubric point 5. Students often shorten the course to APCSP or AP CS Principles.
What percentage do I need for a 5 on AP CSP?
On our table a 5 starts at 90 of 100 composite points, the highest cutoff of any AP exam we model. With a full 6 of 6 on the Create task you need 60 of 70 multiple choice right; with 5 of 6 you need 65. Published estimates agree on this table, but the College Board does not publish cutoffs.
How much is the Create task worth on AP CSP?
30% of the score, or up to 30 composite points on our table, 5 per rubric point. A 5 of 6 on the task plus 50 of 70 multiple choice right gives 75, a 3; 60 right with the same task score gives 85, a 4.
What AP CSP score do I need to pass?
A 3 or higher counts as passing. On our table a 3 starts at 62 composite points, so with 4 of 6 on the Create task you need 42 of 70 multiple choice right. Most students who complete the task carefully and review the pseudocode reference pass.
What percent do I need to get a 3 on AP Computer Science Principles?
A 3 starts at about 62 of 100 composite points on our table, which is roughly 62% of the available points. Because the sections are weighted, it depends on where you lose the points: with a strong free response section you can miss a good share of the 70 multiple choice questions. Enter your expected points and the goal box shows exactly what a 3 needs.
Is this AP CSP score calculator accurate?
The section weights and point values come from the College Board's course and exam description and scoring guidelines, so the composite follows the official weighting for the points you enter. The 1 to 5 is an estimate: the College Board never publishes cutoffs, so our boundaries average published third party estimates, named under the result with the date we checked them. Your real score can differ by one step when you are close to a cutoff.
Can I use this AP CSP calculator for a 2026 exam or practice test?
Yes, as long as your practice test has the same sections as the May 2027 exam described above. Enter your points from a released 2026 free response set or a full practice test and the composite is calculated the same way. The 1 to 5 uses our estimated 2027 cutoffs, and the 2026 score distribution on this page shows how real students did last May.
Does a 3 on AP Computer Science Principles count for college credit?
Many colleges give credit or placement for a 3, and selective colleges often ask for a 4 or 5 in this subject. The policy is set by each college, not by the College Board, so check the AP credit page of the colleges on your list before you decide which scores to send.
